Studies actually show that most of the effects of music, depend on the persons preferences. I love death metal. It allows me to vent my anger, relax when I am stressed, and alleviates any sadness/depression. I also like hardstyle and dubstep type music. Heavy metal, dubstep, and hardstyle make my moods mellow out and I become greatly relaxed. Rap, country, hip hop, soul, R&B, folk, and some accoustic music make me feel angry and hostile. I hate jazz all around. I do play bass in an orchestra here, and baroque is actually quite soothing as well. Classical is decent.

I heard that listening to any music with a repetitive beat can have a hypnotic effect on a person. So pretty much all rock/heavy metal can sway a person into a sort of trance.

Classic though should relax and calm a person, and I read a study that said that a person's memory recall is much sharper and they focus and think much more clearly when they listen to classical music often.

Other genres are a mix of these two, and could produce various effects. Jazz or swing should stimulate a person's sexuality, and anything upbeat can keepa person hyper and going.

i think that listening to music you like makes you feel happy, and music that you don't like can have the opposite effect. i am also doing this project for the science fair.

for me, it doesn't really matter the genre of music. i can feel relaxed from classical and from death-metal. for me it has to do with the tempo of the music. faster music tends to make me more anxious and alert and energetic, while slower music tends to relax my body and slow down my thoughts. Along with the tempo of the music, whether it is a major or minor song effects me more. a happy major song tends to put a smile on my face. while a minor song tends to make me more in a deep thinking kind of mood where it could be seen as depressed but its not. so thats really how it effects me

Rock music makes me peaceful and sometimes energetic.
Classical music makes me feel (depending on what type of notes they play) like crying and sentimental.

repetitive music is exciting the first time I hear it but gets old FAST.
If I hear repetitive beats and words in songs when i am around people I don't know/ in a social situation I feel nervous! majorly.
If I am very very tired (just woke up) or anxious and I hear repetitive beats/lyrics/phrases in music I have a tenancy to repeat them in my head over and over and... It is really bad when I am woken up with it because I absolutely cannot get it out of my head!

Music that is more intricate makes me tired and gives me headaches at first..but the same music..if I like it and listen to it a lot.. I get use to it and the intricateness of it is extremely soothing to me! Feels like focusing on it just unwinds me.

country lyrics annoy me because the lyrics are an important important part for me and I don't like what a lot of county singers sing about (the ones I have heard!)

rap..repetitive.. but if I like the lyrics I can bond with it :)

Poppy fun, light stuff makes me happy..but depends on my mood.
Rocking stuff good to dance too.

If I can really relate to the music I get that nice angsty feeling which gives me a boost. Or if I'm not in that kind of mood.. I listen to other stuff.

simple, mellow music I listen to when i'm feeling melancholy-like and that is good but later on I feel very irritable.

emotional, intricate, rock/pop alternative indie with smooth sexy vocals and strange lyrics are best for me.
References :
Hard rock/metal makes me feel anxious.
Reggae makes me feel relaxed and mellow.
Rap and hip-hop make me feel uptight.
60's or Oldies make me happy.
Acoustic makes me feel more emotional.
Country makes me feel like changing the station.
References :
It all hinges on the persons mindset. While soft soothing music is calming to one person,it may cause a melancholy reaction from another and yet be boring to another.
